LÍNGUA DE SAL
POETRY ANTHOLOGY
2019 / BOOK / EDITORIAL / LITERATURE
Língua de Sal is an anthology of poems in Portuguese whose title is inspired by the book "O sal da Língua" (The salt of the Tongue/Language) by Portuguese poet Eugénio de Andrade. It also refers to the diversity and vastness of the places and people who speak Portuguese, as a consequence of colonial expansion that started with Portuguese navigation.
The materiality of the book — the format and the type of paper used for the cover — is central to the design of the publication, as is the choice of the source of the title and the chapters. These formal aspects reinforce the idea of tongue, in an anatomical sense. The blue gradient is a reference to the sea and salt, two central elements in Portuguese literature and culture.
The size, shape, and the paging grid is designed so that the book can be held in the hand and be read comfortably.
