Inscribed in 2014 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Cante Alentejano is a genre of traditional two-part singing performed by amateur choral groups in southern Portugal, characterized by distinctive melodies, lyrics and vocal styles, and performed without instrumentation.
We have designed two digital posters to promote a series of talks about Cante that are taking place in Alentejo, organized by two professors from Aveiro University and Nova University Lisbon.
The small clay figures are made using a traditional technique from Estremoz, Alentejo. They usually represent men and women from all social classes, typical habits, clothing and utensils of the inhabitants of Alentejo region and humorous characters as well.
